London Bus 2.1, On its way…

CameraIt’s only a small point release, but one of those things I have been meaning to do since I first wrote the app. The key feature in version 2.1 is “Suggest Correction”. Whilst I have endeavoured to have location for every bus stop in the application there are a small number that I don’t have the details for (about 5.6%).

You can now quickly suggest a correction or exact location of any bus stop. From the “Routes” > “Route Details” screen, tap a Stop & select “Suggest Correction”. You can take a photo of the stop sign & automatically attach it to an email along with the location details. Or just send an email.

I have also added a “[ Location Unknown ]” label to stops I do not have the exact address of. Stops often have whats called an indicator code (1-2 letters), this is usually in a red circle at the very top of the sign, for example ‘X’. Which is why taking the photo is very helpful.

Other Features & Fixes:

  • View all of your nearest bus stops on the integrated Map. Select “Locate” > “Google Map”.
  • Many enhancements have been made to improve address searching & journey planning.
  • Added ‘Loading…’ screen.
  • Fixed a crashing bug when adding a Plan to Favourites.

There’s an app on the Itunes store called ‘London Journey Planner’ which has an almost identical icon as ‘London Bus’ (but flipped) and similar functionality. Which one came first? I’ve got a feeling someone is “borrowing” someone elses ideas.

London Journey Planner actually came first in the store and I know the developer (Andy), he’s done a good job & cares about his apps. Our product features differ quite a bit.

I went through a number of icon choices before deciding on the toy Bus icon, I felt it best represented what the app does and obviously something people clearly identify with.
